Under Eye Bags Treatment in Durham: What Actually Works

"I look tired all the time, even when I'm not." I hear this in clinic every week. Under-eye bags, puffiness and dark circles can make you look worn out, and they are one of the hardest areas to treat well. Here is my honest guide to what causes them and what actually helps.

Why do under-eye bags happen?

There is rarely just one cause. Most people have a mix of:

  • Fluid: it collects overnight, which is why puffiness is often worst first thing in the morning
  • Thin skin: the skin under the eyes is some of the thinnest on the body, so blood vessels and shadows show through
  • Genetics: some of us are simply born with fuller fat pads or deeper hollows
  • Collagen loss: from our mid 20s collagen slowly declines, so the skin becomes looser and more lined

What you can do at home

  • A cold compress or chilled eye mask in the morning
  • Less salt and alcohol in the evening
  • Sleeping slightly propped up
  • An eye cream with caffeine or peptides, and SPF every day

These help with mild morning puffiness, but they will not change thin or crepey under-eye skin.

Under-Eye Peptide Revive

Our newest treatment is a course of five weekly sessions using a biomimetic peptide formulation, placed with very fine mesotherapy microinjections. The peptides are designed to support drainage and circulation in the area and improve skin tone and firmness. It is not a filler, so it does not add volume or change the shape of your eyes.

  • Best for: puffiness, mild bags, dark circles, fine lines
  • Course: 5 sessions, one week apart
  • Price: £279 for all 5 sessions

Other options

Polynucleotides help thin, crepey under-eye skin repair and rebuild collagen over a course of three sessions. Read more about polynucleotides.

Under-eye skin boosters hydrate the area and can soften fine lines and a hollow, tired look.

Tear trough filler can help genuine hollows, but it is a specialist treatment and is not right for puffiness. In the wrong person it can make bags look worse, so it is always consultation-led.

What about large bags?

Large, fixed bags caused by prominent fat pads or very loose skin often need a surgical opinion. If that is you, I will tell you honestly rather than sell you a treatment that will not deliver.
