Pre-Summer Skin Refresh: Your 6-Week Glow-Up Plan at The Aesthetic Surgery, Durham

Winter's over. Your skin is ready for the reset.

If you've caught yourself in daylight recently and thought "when did I start looking this tired?" — you're not alone. The combination of cold mornings, central heating and a long British winter leaves skin dehydrated, dull and a little slower to bounce back than it used to be.

Good news: we're six weeks out from the proper start of summer. That's the perfect runway to plan, treat and let your skin settle so you arrive at June with a natural, rested glow — not a "clearly had something done last Tuesday" look.

Here's the plan we talk clients through at The Aesthetic Surgery in Langley Park, Durham.

Week 1–2: Restore the barrier

Before any needles, injectables or devices, your skin needs a solid foundation. That means:

  • A gentle, non-stripping cleanser morning and night.

  • A daily SPF 30 or higher, broad-spectrum, with good UVA protection — yes, even in Durham, yes, even when it's cloudy. The NHS and the British Association of Dermatologists both recommend a minimum of SPF 30 with a UVA rating of at least four stars (or the UVA-in-a-circle logo), reapplied every two hours when you're outside.

  • A simple hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid or panthenol) to rebuild the moisture reservoir. The British Skin Foundation lists hyaluronic acid as one of the most reliable humectants — i.e. it pulls water into the skin.

If you've been stacking five active ingredients for months, this is your permission slip to stop. A calm, hydrated barrier is what makes every other treatment work harder.

In-clinic option: our Glow Revival facial (our take on the "Hollywood" facial) lifts congestion and leaves skin primed without downtime.

Week 3–4: Treat

Now your skin is ready for the treatments that actually move the needle on tone, texture and firmness. The most requested at this point in the calendar:

  • Microneedling — for pigmentation, fine lines and those pores that have opened up over winter. The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners notes that microneedling (collagen induction therapy) works by stimulating the skin's own repair response, and best results come from a properly qualified practitioner, sterile equipment and supported aftercare. You'll want 2–3 weeks before any big event to let the micro-channels close and the collagen response kick in.

  • Skin boosters — micro-droplets of hyaluronic acid placed just under the surface. Think "hydrated from within," not filler. Results build gradually over 2–4 weeks.

  • Dermal filler (subtle) — if you've lost a little volume around the cheeks or under-eyes, a small, targeted refresh now means everything has settled by June.

  • Anti-wrinkle treatment — around 14 days to full effect. Book now, smile in photos later.

Week 5–6: Polish and protect

Final stretch. The heavy lifting is done and your job is to not undo it.

  • Keep the SPF on. The British Association of Dermatologists highlights UV exposure as a leading driver of visible skin ageing and pigmentation — don't sun-damage away the collagen you've just built.

  • Swap in a vitamin C serum in the morning for extra brightness (the British Skin Foundation rates vitamin C as one of the better-evidenced antioxidant ingredients in topical skincare).

  • Book a light microdermabrasion or LED session the week before your big event for that final polish.

  • Sleep, water, a quiet week on the prosecco. Boring advice, still works.
