Pre-Wedding Aesthetic Treatment Timeline (Durham): What to Book and When

Updated: May 4

If you're getting married this summer or in early autumn, the next few weeks are when the smartest planning happens. Wedding skin doesn't appear overnight. The treatments that genuinely make a difference — the ones you'll thank yourself for in the photographs — work best when spaced out over several months, not crammed in during the last fortnight.

At The Aesthetic Surgery in Langley Park, Durham, we look after many brides, grooms, mothers of the bride, bridesmaids, and best men in the run-up to weddings across the North East — from Beamish Hall and Lumley Castle to Lartington Hall Hall and Crook Hall Gardens. Below is the realistic, no-pressure timeline our clients tend to follow, with honest notes on what each treatment can and can't do.

If your wedding is sooner than these windows allow, that's absolutely fine. We'll talk you through the safest options at a free consultation rather than rushing anything.

12 Months Before the Wedding: Lay the Foundation

This is the planning phase, not the panic phase. The aim here is to understand your skin, settle on a treatment plan, and make space in the calendar for the things that need time to work.

We'd suggest:

  • A free in-person consultation at the clinic. We'll look at your skin honestly, talk through your wedding day vision and your day-to-day skincare routine, and map out a sensible plan.

  • Starting a clinical-grade skincare routine if you haven't already. Good cleansing, a vitamin C in the morning, SPF 30+ every single day, and a retinoid at night make a noticeable difference over 6–12 months. Wedding skin is mostly built at home.

  • Booking in any first-time treatments early. If you've never had Botox or filler before, it's much better to try them now and see how your face responds than to do anything for the first time in the final weeks.

6 to 9 Months Before: Collagen-Boosting Work

This is the window for the treatments that work with your skin's own biology rather than sitting on top of it. They're not instant — and that's the point.

  • Polynucleotides can help improve skin quality, hydration, and elasticity over a course of three sessions spaced 2–3 weeks apart. Results build gradually over 8–12 weeks, which is why they suit this part of the timeline so well.

  • Profhilo is another option many of our brides and grooms enjoy at this stage. Two treatments four weeks apart, with results that often peak around 8 weeks after the second session.

  • Skin boosters can help with overall hydration and that lit-from-within look. Again, a course works better than a one-off.

These are quietly powerful treatments. They're not about looking different on your wedding day; they're about your skin behaving better in front of a camera and a marquee full of guests.

4 to 6 Months Before: Sculpt and Refine

If dermal filler is part of your plan, this is when we'd usually start the conversation in earnest.

  • Lip filler, cheek filler, chin filler, and jawline contouring can all be done in this window. Doing any of this 4–6 months out gives the filler time to settle, allows any small swelling to resolve completely, and gives you the option to come back and refine without it ever being last-minute.

  • Tear trough filler is something we always treat conservatively in the lead-up to a wedding. It can be lovely, but it isn't right for every face shape, and it needs time to settle. We'd rather do it earlier and assess at a follow-up.

  • This is also a good time to consider whether to dissolve any older filler that no longer suits you. If we're dissolving and replacing, you want a clear runway either side of those appointments.

6 to 8 Weeks Before: Anti-Wrinkle Injections

This window is the sweet spot for anti-wrinkle injections (Botox).

Treating around 6–8 weeks before the wedding means:

  • The product has fully settled, and you can see exactly how you look.

  • Any tiny bruise or area of redness has long since cleared.

  • If a small top-up is needed, there's still time to do it safely around the two-week review point.

We'd usually avoid first-ever Botox in the final fortnight before a wedding for the same reason we'd avoid trying a new foundation on the morning of the ceremony — there's no upside to surprises.

4 Weeks Before: Final Skin Boost, Then Steady

At about a month out, we'd typically suggest:

  • A final hydrating treatment such as a skin booster or polynucleotide top-up if it's part of your existing plan.

  • A facial that's familiar to your skin — not a new aggressive peel you've never had before.

  • Locking down your home skincare. This is not the week to start a new retinoid.

2 Weeks Before: Aftercare Mode

In the final two weeks, we'd ask clients to step back from anything that risks bruising or downtime: no new injectables, no aggressive resurfacing, no first-time treatments, and ideally a bit less alcohol than usual. Plenty of water, a gentle routine, and sleep.

If something has gone slightly off-plan — a bruise that's lingering, a small area you're worried about — please ring the clinic. We can almost always help, and we'd much rather know.

A Note for Grooms, Best Men, and Mothers of the Bride

Roughly a third of our pre-wedding clients aren't the bride. Anti-wrinkle injections for men, masseter Botox for jaw definition or teeth grinding, polynucleotides for the under-eye area, and skin boosters for tired-looking skin are all popular choices. The same timeline applies — start early, finish gently.

Frequently Asked Questions

How early should I book my consultation?

Ideally 9–12 months before the wedding, but we can work with shorter windows. Even 6 weeks out, we can put together a sensible plan that does no harm and may help.

Will people be able to tell I've had treatments?

Our aim is always for you to look like a refreshed version of yourself, not a different person. Done properly and with enough time, treatments should be noticeable to you and almost no one else.

What if I have a bad reaction close to the day?

Most reactions are minor (small bruise, slight swelling) and resolve quickly, especially when treatments are timed sensibly. We give every client our number, and we're contactable for any concerns. This is one of the reasons we space treatments well clear of the wedding day.

Can I do everything in one appointment a few weeks before?

We wouldn't recommend it. Stacking multiple treatments close to the day removes your safety net for refinement and recovery. A good plan is calmer and more spread out.

Do you offer bridal packages or trial sessions?

We don't sell packages with absolute promises — UK guidelines don't allow that, and we wouldn't anyway. We do offer free in-person consultations where we can put together a personalised plan and pricing.
